2008 Mini Reunions

2008 Mini-reunions

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) celebrated its 35th Anniversary

SWE put together a dynamic program with panelists Georgia Keresty ’83, Senior Vice President of Johnson & Johnson; Shannon (Roche) Klabnik ’92 with Deloitte Consulting, Natasha Levin ’08, treasurer of SWE and Ruth Baltus Professor of Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering at Clarkson and advisor to SWE.  The program was well attended and spirits were high as panelist and alumni talked about their experiences and challenges.  SWE is considering repeating the event on an annual basis.

Clarkson University established the first chapter of SWE in New York State on October 1, 1973. The chapter received 15 national awards, including being selected as the best chapter in the United States several times. Currently SWE remains a vibrant student organization at Clarkson including hosting activities from outreach to young girls K-12 to networking and career preparation for campus students.

The Clarkson School Turned 30!
This summer The Clarkson School celebrated 30 years and invited all former graduates back to campus for fun and festivities surrounding this special event. TCS 30th Anniversary began with an Open House followed by a welcome reception on Friday, July 11th, and continued with a Reunion Banquet on Saturday night, July 12th. 25 alumni returned to hear about new developments and accomplishments of the Clarkson School in recent years as well as discussions about the future of the program.

WCKN
WCKN hosted a dinner for its alumni on Saturday July 12.  Over 30 alumni came to catch up with old friends and meet fellow alumni and current WCKN members. WCKN events and the future of the station were discussed with great enthusiasm and optimism, including plans for moving ahead with the formation of the WCKN Alumni Council at meetings on Saturday and Sunday.   Members of WCKN also offered a tour of the station where they were able to show off the new equipment and the alumni were able to reminisce and tell stories about their times at the station. A great time was had by all! If you were not able to make it to this year’s reunion, please look in the mail and on our website (www.wckn.com) for updates on the Alumni Council and WCKN!

Sigma Delta Fraternity Reunion 2008
After 104 years, Sigma Delta is at a turning point in its history.  To celebrate their history and to communicate plans for the future, the Sigma Delta Governance Board hosted a summer reunion. In conjunction with this event, the Golf Committee hosted the 4th Annual Sigma Delta Golf Classic with rounds on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.  This was a great opportunity to catch up with pledge brothers and alumni who lived at the house, and to hear the message from the Governance Board, regarding the future of the fraternity.

Army ROTC
This year marked the first annual Army ROTC Hall of Fame Induction and Barbeque.  In 1996 Clarkson celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Army ROTC and on that occasion, Captain Timothy L. Mulligan and LT James D. Lynch were inducted into the Army ROTC Hall of Fame and so this year the Army invited all ROTC graduates to come by and celebrate the beginning of a new tradition.  It was a great opportunity to learn about what the “Golden Knight Battalion” has been up to lately, share some Army stories and meet some of the current cadre (at least the ones who weren’t at Advanced Camp).  Whether you’re “Be all you can be”, an “Army of One”, or are currently “Army Strong”, you are always welcome at the “RO” house.

Women's Hockey
Our Clarkson Golden Knights have been nationally ranked in the top 10 for the majority of the season! Returning alumnae, current players and coaches celebrated the team’s achievements at this year’s mini-reunion during Alumni Reunion Weekend. The weekend included a women’s alumnae hockey game on Saturday followed by a gathering and dinner at the parents’ home of alumnae Mary Kearing ’80 in Parishville.

Men's Hockey
Good times with former teammates and a round of golf will made for an enjoyable weekend for the Clarkson University Men’s Hockey team. Many past and present Golden Knights made the trip back to Potsdam to celebrate memories from the glory days as well as the future of the program.

Athletic Hall of Fame Induction
Six outstanding student-athletes, a legendary coach and a renowned benefactor of Golden Knights Athletics were inducted into the Clarkson University Athletic Hall of Fame on July 11 during the University’s annual Summer Reunion. Clarkson honored Bob Empie ’68, Ed Kinney ’47, Larry Martin ’92, Stephanie Sealer ’95, Fred Silver ’68, Kevin Zappia ’79, Bill Harrison, and Murray Walker. The eight members of the Class of 2008 marked the sixth induction class into the Clarkson Athletic Hall of Fame.

Pep Band Alumni Association Summer Reunion
