Research Interests
The goal of the Luck laboratory is to understand how structure relates to function in biological molecules. We are particularly interested in the molecular understanding of conformational changes that take place in proteins when they are activated. Our laboratory uses an array of methods spanning biophysics, biochemistry, protein engineering, molecular biology, cell biology, proteomics, and genomics. Our specific approaches include most of the modern tools, which include fluorescence, and NMR, mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, electrochemistry, molecular graphics, site-directed mutagenesis, DNA sequencing, gene cloning, protein purification, homology searches to identify related proteins, and our specialty is 19F NMR.

We are also using these biomolecules in the development of biosensors for glucose, fluorinated aromatic compounds, endocrine disruptors, and agents of bioterrorism. These biosensors are based on electrochemical methods such as impedence spectroscopy and the quartz piezoelectric crystal microbalance.
