Student Environmental Organizations

Clarkson hosts a variety of student organizations devoted to environmental issues. A full list can be found at Campus Involvement. The following is an amended list of groups that many ES&P students are involved in.

Clarkson University Environmental Remediation Team (CURE) is Clarkson’s environmental
design team. Each year, the team competes in a national design contest. In 2007, CURE won
second place in the 17th annual International Environmental Design Contest held in New
Mexico.

Environmental Conservation Organization (ECO) was formed to encourage awareness of environmental and human rights through a variety of methods such as Earth Day events, on and off campus projects, and more. In recent years, ECO has participated in Power Shift and other student lobbying activities.

The Environmental Policy Group is a group of faculty, staff and students appointed by President Tony Collins. The tasks set forth for the group are to examine our sustainability and environmental policies and practices, draft a formal declaration of commitment to environmental sustainability and stewardship for adoption by the University, and coordinate implementation of the new policies and practices.

The Clarkson University Outing Club (CUOC) encourages and teaches leadership skills as well as responsible treatment of the environment, and enables members to safely participate in outdoor activities. The Club sponsors and leads trips to local places of interest, including the Adirondacks and Lake Placid. The CUOC also operates a climbing wall in Congdon gym and an equipment room full of outdoor equipment that can be rented out as needed.

New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) was formed to promote interest in the environment, specifically protecting and enhancing our water resources.
