Clarkson’s K-12 Partnership Program embraces a project-based learning approach and tailors this learning to the age, interest and grade level of local students. We offer several curricula that were inspired by the expertise of Clarkson’s research faculty and that vary according to theme and targeted grade level, including:
- Energy Systems - Address the energy crisis through science and technology applications (8th science/technology)
- Biomedical Engineering – Apply engineering concepts to human systems (bones, circulatory/heart) (middle school science, AP Biology)
- Rehabilitation Engineering - Design assistive device for the handicapped (high school technology)
- Lego Robotics
Concrete: Product Design & Marketing – Make and test innovative concrete mixtures and choose best for a concrete product (8th technology)- The Hydrogen/Bio-Fuel Economy – Explore technical, social and environmental aspects of our future transportation fuels (high school Environmental Science, Chemistry)
- Computer Networking – Home Automation – Design systems to use computer network, sensor and control devices to automate home function (high school technology)
- Cyber-Civics – Explore how the explosion of computer networks and activities (voting, privacy) impact our social systems (high school government)
- Roller Coaster Design – Apply physics, math and engineering principles to design and build a model rollercoaster (8th technology, high school physics and math)
- Air Quality – Examine impact of acidic and particulate emissions on the atmosphere and environment (high school Environmental Science)
- Water Quality – Investigate watersheds, nonpoint pollution and drinking water supply and treatment activities (middle school science)
