Pay-Per-View Policies and Procedures
Pay-Per-View Policies and Procedures
WHAT IS THE PAY-PER-VIEW SYSTEM?
Pay-Per-View (PPV) is a service which the library uses to access articles which are not available in either our print or online collections. It is intended for immediate needs and is not a replacement for Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL should be used for all requests that are not subject to specific time constraints.
WHEN IS THE SERVICE AVAILABLE?
Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sunday 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Service is not provided Saturdays and is limited during breaks and holidays.
Library Hours
WHO CAN USE THE SERVICE?
Faculty (current, visiting, and research) may all use the PPV service. Faculty who wish to enable their research students (graduate and undergraduate) to participate in this service need send a request to the Reference Desk at the beginning of each semester. Requests should be reserved for students who are actively engaged in research mentored by the faculty member.
WHAT IS THE PPV PROCEDURE?
To make a request, please fill out the pay-for-view request form. Library staff will make the purchase and send the article via e-mail.
WHAT FINANCIAL LIMITATIONS APPLY?
The Clarkson Library funds all costs of the program with a limit of $50.00 per article for any one article purchase. PPV is intended for immediate needs and is not a replacement for Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL should be used for all requests that are not subject to specific time constraints.
WHAT OTHER LIMITATIONS APPLY?
The program is intended for purchasing journal articles which are not in our print or online collections. However, many conference papers, reports, standards and other materials can be ordered through PPV if they are urgently needed, not in our collections, and the cost is below $50.00.
Books, theses, dissertations, and other older materials which are not in our print or online collections cannot be ordered through this service. These must be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
CAN FACULTY ORDER A PPV WITH A P-CARD?
- The purchase can only be made by Faculty (current, visiting, and research).
- A University P-Card is the only form of acceptable payment when making the purchase.
- All faculty are responsible for understanding how to search the Libraries’ holdings to determine access and eligibility for potential purchases. Instruction on how to use the University Libraries is readily available. Contact us at gberry@clarkson.edu for a consultation.
- The purchase can only be made for resources not currently in our print and online collections.
- Faculty must submit a request for fund transfer to the University Libraries with the full departmental fund/object code and should send the library backup printouts of the online order form which was used to obtain the article.
