Where Can Environmental Science & Policy Take Me?
Clarkson's Environmental Science and Policy program prepares you to become a leader in addressing environmental challenges. We do this with a combination of rigorous courses in the sciences and "big-picture" courses in history, policy, economics, ethics and law.
To begin with, you gain a rigorous foundation in math and science: calculus, statistics and numerous courses and labs in biology, ecology, chemistry, environmental science, and environmental health science. Clarkson is fundamentally a technological university and our students benefit from that institutional strength. The science and math courses are challenging and prepare the students well for the future.
Because Clarkson is a small university, you will benefit from plenty of student-faculty interaction. Faculty members will treat you individually and assist you in supervised internships during the summer, or work experiences relevant to your interests during the academic year. Recent experiences include:
- Ranch work in Colorado for The Nature Conservancy
- Aquatic ecology research on New York's Hudson River
- Work at the Biosphere Two Project in Arizona
- Aquatic research at Woods Hole in Massachusetts
- New York State Assembly Internship Program
- Corporate internships at Wyeth, NYSEG, and A. Schonbek & Co.
Clarkson boasts an outstanding record of placing graduates in choice jobs. Our graduates are sought by employers and graduate programs because they have a reputation for technical competence and, in addition to a great academic background in subject matter, strong skills in communication, creative problem solving, and organizational leadership. Our Career Center will assist you from your first semester on, in charting your career path, making connections, developing your resume, and presenting yourself effectively. ES&P students are well represented in industry, consulting firms, government and nongovernmental organizations.
